De fapt

Ana-Maria Gruia, aka Goddess Gruia, nu este, la drept vorbind, pictoriță. În viața reală ea este istoric, muzeograf, traducător, reenactor și mic antreprenor. Pentru ea, arta este grozavă, dar neserioasă. Ana era daliniană încă din grădiniță, unde își afișa singură lucrările la ”panoul de onoare„ după ce le compara cu ale colegilor de grupă (mijlocie).

Especially while in the making

Ana nu ia arta foarte în serios. Ba chiar din contră - pentru ea, timpul petrecut în atelier este cel mai bun pretext de joacă, de auto-ironie și de făcut planuri.

Istorie

Patina timpului a.k.a. stil jego-șters

Munca cu obiectele de patrimoniu mă face să iubesc patina timpului, iar datorită specializării mele în studii medievale pictez căsuțe, străduțe și orășele din veacul deloc întunecat. În lucrările mele substratul istoric se reflectă și în aluziile la iconografie și în stil - foarte academica definiție de ”stil jego-șters” reflectă fascinația mea față de patina lucrurilor vechi.

The young artist

As an artist, Ana Maria Gruia, has the great advantage of having as back ground many years of thorough study of art history. This offers her the advantage of a retrospective, objective look upon the act of artistic creation. In the same time it allows her to take over, synthesise and reinterpret a multitude of themes and motives. Ana Maria Gruia plays with shapes and ideas, essentializing up to symbol elements from the real world, creating a dynamic and distinct universe. Each painting carries within/ encloses its story, allowing the viewer multiple possibilities of interpretation. In what technical matters are concerned, she experimented with oil, acrylic, charcoal and pastel, but prefers the first. The themes depicted belong to everyday life, or they are reinterpretations of personal visions of life. Sometimes, the theme is hidden from the viewer. Real/concrete blends with abstract, figurative with non-figurative, raising in such way the curiosity of the public, its interest in discovering and rediscovering the universe created by the young artist.

Free as a bird

In the artworks of Ana Maria Gruia one can notice that she is using art material from her home Romanian tradition and some art historical trends of European painting. What Ana Maria Gruia interprets and materializes in her oil images and spontaneous and un-mediated artistic notes on feelings and moods which she offers sometimes completely freely playing and other times more deeply thinking and secessionally decorated.
